GREENVILLE, North Carolina (April 5, 2021) – The Greenville Eastern North Carolina (ENC) Alliance, a public private partnership focused on economic development is honored to welcome East Carolina University Chancellor Dr. Philip G. Rogers to its board of directors.

“The economic development of eastern North Carolina is of utmost importance to the people of our region and to ECU. I look forward to working with the dedicated and creative board members of the Greenville ENC Alliance to ensure that all our efforts are future-focused, and innovation driven,” said Chancellor Rogers.

Rogers, the 12th chancellor of ECU, is expected to attend his first Alliance board meeting this week. He will be introduced to the board by former interim chancellor Dr. Ron Mitchelson who previously served on the Alliance’s board of directors.

“You’ve heard me beat the drum about ECU’s mission. We are all in on student success and regional transformation, and the Greenville ENC Alliance is on board with us in building toward the future of eastern North Carolina. Having Dr. Rogers on the board will benefit both ECU and the region,” said Mitchelson.

As a Diamond Level investor in the Alliance, ECU has committed to a $100,000 contribution per year through, at least, 2024. At this level of investment, the university is guaranteed a voting member board seat.

“The support and engagement of ECU is imperative to our organization’s success,” said Steve Weathers, president and CEO of the Greenville ENC Alliance. “Dr. Mitchelson was an incredibly engaged and active board member who prioritized talent retention and workforce development. We look forward to working with Chancellor Rogers on these important initiatives.”

Through Rogers’ prior experience at ECU as a policy analyst in 2007 and as chief of staff from 2008 to 2013, the Alliance is looking forward to utilizing his expertise to grow the eastern North Carolina region to allow industry to thrive. Rogers also has a professional national and international network from his work as senior vice president at the American Council on Education.

“We could not be more excited to have Chancellor Rogers join our well-rounded and dynamic group of board members who are committed to economic growth and prosperity in the region,” said Greenville ENC Alliance board chairman, Michael Overton. “We are excited to be able to work with and support him as he leads one of the leading academic institutions in our great state.”

Chancellor Rogers will join 40 other committed board members to support the mission of the Greenville ENC Alliance. Current members have experience in a variety of industries including education, business, manufacturing, medicine, tourism, public service, municipal leadership, and civic engagement. Rogers’ first Alliance board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 7 at 3:00pm.
