Organizers of the 2025 Better Skills, Better Jobs Fair say the event achieved its mission of raising awareness of local career and educational opportunities while fostering engagement between employers and prospective workers.
Held Oct. 2 at the Greenville Convention Center, the fair drew more than 1,000 attendees. Representatives from a record 141 employers, educational institutions, and community organizations were on hand—nine more than last year’s 132 participants.
“Pitt Community College has fully supported the fair since it began in 2021 to ensure every individual in our region has access to the training and support they need for success,” PCC President Maria Pharr said. “It’s amazing to see so many wonderful organizations working together for a stronger future. It truly shows what’s possible when we align education and support services with opportunities for gainful employment.”
The morning session, reserved for high school students, saw 348 Pitt County juniors and seniors learn about job opportunities and ways to begin earning college credit while still in high school through programs such as Career & College Promise and the PCC–Pitt County Schools Technical Academy.
A total of 657 adults attended the afternoon session, where many were able to interview with local employers onsite. Jobseekers also received interview and résumé tips, along with free professional portraits. The nonprofit Dress for Success Mobile Boutique distributed professional attire to assist participants in their job searches.
“In its fifth year, this was the most impactful event thus far,” said David Horn, vice president of operations and strategic partnerships for Greenville ENC Alliance. “All employer and resource representatives we spoke with indicated that they connected with a significant number of quality career seekers. Some employers lined up interviews and even hired on the spot.”
Pitt Community College (PCC), John M. Belk Endowment, ECU, Greenville ENC Alliance, Pitt County Economic Development, Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce, Cengage, and Inner Banks Media co-hosted the event at the Greenville Convention Center. Community partners include Pitt County Schools, Greenville Utilities, Tradesformers, NC Coastal Society for Human Resource Management, NCWorks, ECU Health, Koinonia Community Solutions, Better Business Bureau of Eastern Carolinas, and Dress for Success.
