Pitt County and the North Carolina Biotechnology Center unveiled a new training space to support local and regional biopharmaceutical manufacturers. Located at Pitt County’s Technology Enterprise Center on North Greene Street in Greenville, the training space is housed within the North Carolina Pharmaceutical Services Network @ Pitt Community College (NCPSN@PCC) training suite.
The new aseptic gowning and simulation space for an isolator manufacturing environment provides additional training for practices that are widely used in the biopharmaceutical industry.
NCPSN@PCC’s training began at the facility in 2014 to provide oral solid dose training to support local pharmaceutical production needs. With space donated by Pitt County and upfitted with Pitt County and GoldenLEAF Foundation funds, the space provides hands-on training for the production of pharmaceutical tablets and capsules. The new training space at the NCPSN@PCC facility was designed specifically for and with input from local biopharmaceutical manufacturers such as Thermo Fisher Scientific and Catalent. The isolator training environment has become increasingly critical in order to adhere to global and domestic regulations within the pharmaceutical industry.
The new training has been added to the NCGrads2Work program , which provides a two-day course for recent high school graduates. Upon successful completion, graduates are guaranteed an interview with both Catalent and Thermo Fisher Scientific. To date, 125 students have attended NCGrads2Work, and 75 attendees have been offered employment with local companies.
“These training initiatives are critically important to assist our industry partners as they grow and change with the industry,” says Kelly Andrews, Pitt County Economic Development Director. “With our partners, we will continue to develop more resources to support new and existing biopharma companies as well as to provide career opportunities for our residents.”
