Spring Sports Tourism Events Generate Over $5 Million in Economic Impact to Greenville-Pitt County

GREENVILLE, North Carolina – Sports tourism made a return to Greenville-Pitt County in a big way this spring. The Greenville-Pitt County Sports Commission (Play Greenville, NC Sports) is pleased to announce during the months of April, May, and June 2021, sports tourism events held in Greenville-Pitt County generated over $5 million in estimated economic impact to our local economy.

Events held in our destination in Spring 2021, included: the NCAA D1 Women’s Soccer 1st and 2nd round games, and the NCAA D1 Baseball Regional both hosted at East Carolina University, the North Carolina Youth Soccer Association Kepner Cup hosted by the Pitt Greenville Soccer Association, along with several US Softball Association sanctioned tournaments, cornhole tournaments, tennis tournaments, and more.

Along with assisting in the planning and hosting of these spring events, Play Greenville, NC Sports has also been busy working with local, state, regional, and national partners to book additional sports events for later this year and early 2022, in an effort to return to pre-pandemic levels of sports events bookings.

Future tournaments coming to Greenville-Pitt County, include: FirstNC Robotics State Championship, the 2021 Greenville BBQ LAX Bash tournament sanctioned by USA Lacrosse, the return of the Down East Players Cup hosted by the Greenville Disc Golf Association, and several more.
